Länsimetro

Metro transport in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area is being extended from Ruoholahti in Helsinki to Matinkylä in Espoo via Lauttasaari. The project is known as “West metro”. The west metro is Finland’s largest infrastructure project and it comprises seven new stations, the excavation of two tunnels, each nearly 14 km in length, and the removal of around three million cubic metres of blasted rock. The west metro extension’s official kick-off event was held next to the existing metro tunnel, under the Ruoholahti shopping centre, on 24 November 2009.

Saanio & Riekkola Oy is providing both master planning and rock engineering services to the Länsimetro project.
